Non Birding Post

Some readers of my blog have rightly commented that it is rather birding focused instead of "nateure" focused. So this blog is going to be a bird free zone ( until part 2 ;) )! Featuring some photos I beamed from my camera to my phone. I'll do this in the future if I have time/energy to do so.

We were walking around this sewage lagoons searching for ***** when we noticed a creature watching us from the muck.

Again, not too sure on what species of Croc this is but will research it later!

This kind of freaked my mom out and there was great debate whether to continue along the walk or not. My dad and I outvoted my mother and the walk continued without incident.

I noticed some very pretty butterflies, again I have much to learn on the butterfly front, but this was lovely.
This one appeared to be very common also.

We had heard about the Marco Gonzalez Maya Site on the south side of the island and decided to check it out. On the way we stopped by this wetland and saw this absolute unit!!!
I felt worried for any Heron/shorebird that got near it!!
At the parking lot for the site we saw this sign:
Seems pretty damn accurate!

The trail to the Maya site made any portage I have taken in Algonquin look palacial in comparison.
It didn't look like it was going to improve as we continued and was kind of overgrown and we were hot.. so we chickened out!

We saw this tree, I liked the look of its fruit, they looked fig esque? Fig tree? More research required!!

Saw this cute hermit crab on a walk around our place!! Our beach is not the most natural.... so surprised to see it around!

There are tonnes of lizards around, they are so striking and primordial. Awesome to see them.
This duder is called a Brown Anoe I believe! Cutie!

Later in the day I went snorkeling around the dock at our place with my parents! Not the most exotic but I really enjoyed seeing all the fish around! No pictures but I saw this really gorgeous all yellow fish with two black vertical stripes. Some cute small inquisitive white and blue and yellow fish called a sergeant major:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergeant_major_(fish) as well as one blue tang I think!

Overall a lovely day

First Twitch of 2026 - Red-Flanked Bluetail

When a "Mega" rarity is seen 25 minutes from your house, it is pretty hard not to go twitch it. This morning I went to Great Falls...
