First Day

My first Belize bird was a great tailed grackle. Saw it while waiting for customs at the Belize city airport. Waiting was a big theme today between security in Toronto, customs at Belize City and the lineup for the Ferry (and for dinner!) but so far Belize has been worth the wait.
The standout for me has been Magnificent Frigatebirds. They fly with such grace and almost remind you of haunting ghosts (in a good way) as you see them soar across the sky.
Haven't done too much intentional birding today since today was mostly travel but notable birds for me have been Tropical Mockingbird, a Scissor Tailed Flycatcher, which would have been the coolest bird I've seen today if not for the Frigatebirds, Brown Pelicans, Royal and Sandwich Terns and Laughing Gulls.

Its always funny what travelling does to your birding paradigm as Laughing Gulls are the ring-billed gull of the tropics it seems.

We enjoyed a quick dinner, where we had red beans and rice, some tacos and a veggie curry for dinner.

On our way back to our place, we attempted to listen for some owls/nightjars but with no luck. I think it is too bright/too busy in San Pedro. We will have more luck in the later part of our trip I am sure.

My mom pointed out the tail of a gecko hiding near our door
I have no idea what it is but I'm sure INaturalist will have an answer for me.

Tommorrow I am planning on waking up early, target for Ambergris Caye is a Black Catbird, but I am so excited to explore the area and the birds.

When a "Mega" rarity is seen 25 minutes from your house, it is pretty hard not to go twitch it. This morning I went to Great Falls...
